Lilly and I started this business in 1987 because we'd lived in Europe long enough to know what we were missing back home. Not exotic discoveries or hidden treasures, mind you, just the everyday excellence that Europeans take for granted. The kind of salt that actually tastes like the sea. Vinegar with character. Tea that doesn't need anything added to it.
We weren't looking to revolutionize anything. We hoped to bring over the brands that had already proven themselves, sometimes for centuries. Turns out, that was revolutionary enough. Nearly forty years later, our approach hasn't changed much. We still believe that quality doesn't need to announce itself, that the best partnerships are built quietly over time, and that American families would appreciate the same thoughtful craftsmanship that European families have always expected.
